Writing Curriculum - TOSA

We want to introduce our “new” Curriculum Specialist (TOSA) at Adams, Mallory Price. Ms. Price will be offering her valuable expertise and support to our beloved teachers this year. Because of a successful fundraising effort in 2016-17, the PTA was able to help fund this position. We cannot wait to see how our school grows as a result of Mallory's efforts!

Can you tell me a little bit about your professional history with Adams & your background in teaching?

“My first teaching position was at Adams! I have been teaching Kindergarten at Adams for the past five years. During my five years at Adams, I have developed a passion for teaching writing using a writing workshop approach, and have attended the Teacher’s College Reading and Writing Project Summer Institute at Columbia University for the last three summers.”

What does TOSA mean, and what is your role as a curriculum specialist at Adams?

“TOSA literally means ‘Teacher On Special Assignment’. I am still technically a teacher (and always will be in my heart); however, I have been given the opportunity to be a Literacy Coach for the 2017-2018 school year. Coaching is a relatively new form of professional development that has the potential to be extremely powerful in transforming schools. As far as I know, I am the only Literacy Coach in Santa Barbara Unified School District!”
