PANORAMA SCHOOL CLIMATE SURVEY

SBUSD is committed to using data to inform decisions, which includes seeking input for students, families and staff.  The climate/culture survey is an opportunity for students, staff and families to share their experiences.  So far, we have 17 responses but are hoping for 100%. Please provide us with your input today.

FAMILY READING NIGHT

What a successful event! We were thrilled to see so many families in attendance. It looked like over 100 students participated in the activities portion of the evening. Together with parents and siblings I am sure we had well over 250 in attendance. Thank you to Sara Chalmers, the literacy committee, support staff Kenya and Jessica, and all the volunteers, big and small, who made the night possible!

CALM CORNER

Hello Tiger Family!

As we enter the new month, let's take a look back and praise ourselves for all the hard work we are doing for our students and families. Around this time, students may feel overwhelmed or discouraged to do the school work. It is important that we remind our students of all the accomplishments and hard work they have done. Using positive self talk/positive affirmations can set the students up for success. As adults, we can also be hard on ourselves and have expectations for ourselves that may seem hard to fill. I wanted to share with you a video on positive self talk and remind all of us to be a little more gentle with ourselves.

REMINDERS FROM THE PREVIOUS WEEK

ELPAC (English Learner Proficiency Assessment for California)

The ELPAC is in progress. Get your child to bed on time and make sure they have a nutritious breakfast now through the next two weeks. The ELPAC Test is given only to our multilingual students. It is composed of 4 domains: Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking. Here is a link for you to use so that your child can continue to practice. You’ll need to log in as a guest.  All students take the speaking test individually but 3rd-6th graders take the Reading, Writing, and Listening tests as a whole group on their iPads. From March 11-15, all students in grade 3-6 will take the group tests.  Please do not pick up students from 9:00-10:00AM next week so that they can take the test uninterrupted. This is an important test that helps us better understand your child’s English proficiency. If your child is in grades K-2, they will continue to take the ELPAC individually with a test examiner. Please contact the assistant principal at hcorral@sbunified.org or call extension 1041 if you have any questions.
