FAIR TICKETS
The Santa Barbara Fair and Expo are once again offering our school a fundraising opportunity. We will be selling pre-sale carnival tickets for the 2024 Santa Barbara Fair and Expo. Tickets are available in the school office. The wristband for unlimited rides per ticket is $30. We will receive cash or checks made out to the Adams PTA to pay for the tickets. Pre Sale Tickets will be available starting April 1st.
RECLASSIFICATION BREAKFAST
Join us during Friday Flag on April 5th to recognize and celebrate 33 Emergent Multilingual Learner (EML) students who put in the hard work and dedication and earned English Language Proficient status. This is a significant accomplishment because these are students whose home or primary language is not English and have added English to their repertoire. “The process to successfully reclassify is not an easy one,” said Kelly Fresch, Adams Principal. “I am so proud of these students. Their hard work and extra determination is inspiring. This will open doors of expanded opportunity for them now and well into their futures.”
The 33 students are: Julian Amador, Mia Garcia, Zahir Garcia, Josue Hernandez, Virgillio Hernandez, Damian Olivera, Yamileth Rios Angel, Yandel Rosales, Andrew Trujillo, Aliah De Leon Carachure, Leon Hernandez, Brandon Medina-Guerra, Abraham Villa Manzanarez, Emilia Brito Jimenez, Lilibeth Sixto, Ruben Aviles Carlos, Lizandra Gomez, Lluvia Gaytan Cervantes, Randy Ortiz Monroy, Nicolas Rosales, Edgar Alvarado Rivera, Angela Arcos Cedomio, Julie Colin Carbajal, Damian Gomez, Genesis Irineo, Liam Jacinto Soriano, Victoria Juarez, Jose Lopez Equihua, Ian Martinez, Alejandro Rosales, Isaac Sixto, Yaritza Trinidad, and Isaac Casillas.
The Education Development Center describes EMLs as “people of any age who are learning more than one language and developing proficiency to participate and be successful in their environment.”
Our school describes EMLLs as fierce Tigers! Congratulations to all of these students and their parents for accomplishing this goal.
AHA SUPPORTING YOUR CHILD THROUGH ADVERSITY PARENT GROUP
The AHA! team is so looking forward to sharing the next Santa Barbara Unified School District Parent Group on WEDNESDAY evening, April 3rd! Supporting Your Child Through Adversity Join AHA! to discover positive parenting strategies that set children up for success, including better school performance, relationships, mental health, and well-being in adulthood. We’ll review simple, easy-to-implement skills to foster connection and joy even on tough parenting days. Details in the attachment below.
CAR SEATS
Staff have recently expressed concern about putting students in the car after school without car seats for some of our littles. We really should not be doing so. I have asked staff who are comfortable to let you know, “I am not legally allowed to put your child in the car without a car seat so please make sure starting tomorrow you have a car seat.” If staff are not comfortable saying that to parents they have been asked to tell me who the student is and I will then make the phone call to the parent. Our intent is not to pass judgment, simply to ensure our student’s safety. I am aware that on some rare occasions, additional family or friends may be called upon to provide transportation and in that case, they may not have a car seat. Again, we will try to be understanding in unique circumstances, and we will ask that moving forward, students be provided car seats if they fall under the state guidelines.
-
California Vehicle Code Section 27363: Children under the age of 8 must be secured in a car seat or booster seat in the back seat. Children who are 8 years of age OR have reached 4'9” in height may be secured by a booster seat, but at a minimum must be secured by a safety belt.

CALM CORNER
With spring break right around the corner, here are some techniques and suggestions of how to practice mindfulness during the break! Being mindful and present with our loved ones is a great way to improve our communication and emotional awareness. Not to mention, a way to reduce stress and enjoy our time with our students. Below is the Family Mindfulness Schedule! Please take a look and I encourage you to practice this at home or when you are traveling out of town.
