Encourage them to join us to learn more about what the responsibilities for the year entail.

ELAC MEETING SEPTEMBER 13

Being a multilingual person is a powerful gift. Did you know that Adams has an English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC)? If you are a parent of an emergent multilingual Tiger, please join us for this year’s first ELAC meeting on Monday, September 13 from 6:00-7:00pm. The ELAC is responsible for advising the principal and staff in the development of a site plan for English learners, assisting in the development of the schoolwide needs assessment, and one lucky member has the the opportunity to  serve on the District English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC). We hold 4-5 meetings per year. We will be holding member elections during the first meeting. Interpretation will be offered. Please contact any of our past ELAC officers, including president- Amba Coyt, or Hortencia Corral at hcorral@sbunified.org if you have any questions.  See this flyer for all of this year’s dates

INDEPENDENT STUDY

If a student is going to be out of school for 5 or more school days, students need to be on a short term independent study learning agreement (ISLA). ISLAs are 5-10 day contracts for families who are not able to attend school in person. This not only helps the school recover lost ADA, but helps the students stay up to par with class progress instructionally. Five to 10 days of work is designed for the student to complete during their time away. The work is submitted upon return, graded, and attendance credit is given ONLY if all the criteria is met.

There is no substitute for an Adams in-person education so Adams encourages families to plan trips during school breaks. Adams discourages nonessential trips during the school year.  Pursuant to Education Code  51745–51749.6 , pupils who participate in independent study have the same course requirements as pupils in regular classes, 6 hours of work per day. Adams will only approve ISLAs with 2-3 week notice and after consultation with your child's teacher and the assistant principal. For more information, contact Ms. Corral at hcorral@sbunified.org.

TIGER LOVE CAMPAIGN

Thank you to everyone who has already donated so generously to this campaign! 🧡 EVERY student at Adams benefits from your contributions. Watch for donation envelopes coming home and help us reach our overall total of $45,000 / 100% participation goal. Please stretch your budget to include a donation of any amount to support the programs, learning materials, and additional curriculum aides funded by the Adams PTA.

Donate and help your child’s entire classroom receive a prize for 100% family participation.

Donations can be left in the front office TigerLove dropbox or online (one-time or monthly) https://secure.qgiv.com/for/aes

UMBRELLA DONATIONS

Adams is in need of umbrellas to help shade our Tigers during morning recess breakfast and lunch eating times. If you are able to donate an umbrella and stand, please email ms. Fresch at kfesch@sbunified.org so I can share the specific link to a safe and sturdy preference for this donation. Ideally we would like to have10 more umbrellas on campus to shade our TIgers while they are eating.

CONGRATS TO OUR SUMMER READING PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS

We will celebrate our Summer Readers on Friday, September 10th with a walk to Chaucers Book Store and lunch at MacKenzie Park. Please return the permission slips you will receive on Friday to Dr. Price to be able to participate. Congratulations to the following students: Anisia Kourakis, Conor and Alana Brooks, Liv Holdren, Chantael and Elishahi Guzman Guinto, Evan and Elliot Ree, Vivien Cogswell, Emma Sizer, Noah Pettit, and Lilah Gullet

CAMP CIMI AND ASTO

A few parents and students have inquired about these unique camping experiences that Adams has offered in the past to fifth and sixth graders. We are sorry to share that our students will again not be participating during this school year both due to COVID and transportation for trips not being approved, and the lack of funds made available by the Audacious Foundation in the past. We will seek other unique learning opportunities for our upper grade TIGERS, if funds and District approval allow for it.

REMINDERS FROM PREVIOUS THURSDAY MESSAGES:

SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL PARENT ELECTIONS

Our first SSC meeting will take place on Tuesday, September 21, at 3:15 via ZOOM. If you are interested in joining the school site council you may nominate yourself. Please return the attached nomination form by TOMORROW.

A formal parent Ballot will be provided in next week’s Thursday Folder.

HEALTH OFFICE

In the Health Office, we address many needs of the students – scraped knees, stomachaches, or headaches.  Another need may be a change of clothes when a student uses the slide when it is wet with dew, play in a mud puddle or have a bathroom accident.

Although we do have some clean clothing available for the children, unfortunately we do not have clothes that will fit all children or clothes the children prefer.  We recommend the TK, Kindergarten and even the First grade students have a change of clothes in their backpacks in case of emergencies. The students feel more comfortable when they can change into their own clothing.  It is suggested that parents add a pair of clean underwear, socks, shorts and a t-shirt in a Ziploc bag. If a student has a bathroom accident parents will be notified, and the soiled clothes will be sent home.  Please replace clothing items as necessary throughout the year.

MEDS: FRIENDLY REMINDER FROM THE HEALTH OFFICE

As we return to school full time, it is important to update the health office of the health needs of your student, especially medications. If your student needs to have medications available in the health office, please have your doctor complete the necessary forms. Bring the completed forms and medications to the health office ASAP. Please contact Patti Mahota at 805-563-2515 ext. 1042 if you have any questions.

SB UNIFIED IS HIRING!

Our school district has many open positions from kitchen, transportation, noon duty, and classroom aides, to bilingual staff. If you or anyone you know is looking for employment please have them visit the Districts website. IPAD INSURANCE

Last year, we did not offer optional iPad insurance to families because of pandemic conditions. This year, we are again offering optional iPad insurance through the same process and vendor as in the past. The deadline for families to sign up for insurance, if they are interested, is October 3, 2021. Families sign up directly with the insurance vendor and pay on their website. If a device is later broken, we file the insurance claim on their behalf. We have posted this information on the District's website on the Tech
