ROAR RUN FUNDRAISER KICKED OFF TODAY

The PTA’s spring fundraiser kicks off today with lots of excitement!  Our fundraising partner, Booster, will be on campus for the next week, building school spirit and sharing character-building messages with the students. The fundraiser ends with a fun run next Friday, April 25th.  Look for upcoming Parent Square messages from the PTA to volunteer to help on fun run day.

Our fundraising goal is $30,000 which will be used to fund field trips, enrichment classes, community events, and extra supplies and materials in classrooms.

Here’s how you can support Adams Elementary:

1. Register on mybooster.com tonight. It’s so easy!

2. Share about our fundraiser with your family and friends using the SHARE BUTTON on mybooster.com

3. Give a donation, if you are able.

RECLASSIFICATION BREAKFAST TOMORROW

Join us during Friday Flag tomorrow to recognize and celebrate 18 Emergent Multilingual Learner (EMLL) students who put in the hard work and dedication and earned English Language Proficient status. This is a significant accomplishment because these are students whose home or primary language is not English and have added English to their repertoire.  “The process to successfully reclassify is not an easy one,” said Kelly Fresch, Adams Principal. “I am so proud of these students. Their hard work and extra determination is inspiring. This will open doors of expanded opportunity for them now and well into their futures.”

The 18 students are:

Denali Ayala, Mya Bishop, Camila Castro, Aaron Campos, Maria Eloiza Carachure, Mia De Leon Carachure, Cristian Garcia, Liam Garcia, Lizbeth Gonzales Cataln, Leah Hernandez Catalan, Allan Montoya Villalba, Angel Ramirez, Aron Razo, David Rodriguez Rangel, Edwin Romero Recinos, Noah Rubio, Rafael Santamaria Carlos, and David Nicolas Soanca

The Education Development Center describes EMLs as “people of any age who are learning more than one language and developing proficiency to participate and be successful in their environment.”

Our school describes EMLs as fierce Tigers! Congratulations to all of these students and their parents for accomplishing this goal.

CALM CORNER

Choosing Better Video Content for Children's Mental Health

Not all screen time is created equal—some types of video content can support children’s learning and emotional development, while others may contribute to anxiety, irritability, or sleep problems. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, high-quality, age-appropriate videos that are educational, slow-paced, and encourage curiosity can positively impact mental health and attention spans. On the other hand, fast-paced, overstimulating content or videos with aggressive behavior and negative role models can make it harder for children to focus, regulate emotions, and wind down at bedtime.

Parents and caregivers can support healthy viewing habits by watching videos with their children, discussing what they see, and helping them apply lessons to real life. Common Sense Media recommends choosing programs that promote empathy, cooperation, and problem-solving, and setting consistent screen time limits. Encouraging kids to take regular breaks from screens and engage in play, reading, or outdoor time also helps support balanced mental and emotional development. By being thoughtful about the type of content children consume, we can help them build a healthier relationship with media and support their well-being.

CAASPP STATE TESTS ARE COMING FOR GRADES 3-6 MAY 5 TO 23

Parents, please do not schedule appointments or vacations for the first three weeks of May, as students in grades 3-6 will be taking our high-stakes state tests during those weeks. You can begin to prepare your child with this helpful information.

Getting Familiar with the Test: Practice and Training TestsExternal link opens in new window or tab. – This link accesses both the practice and training tests portal. The practice tests provide students with grade-specific testing experiences that are similar in structure and format to the summative assessments. The training tests provide students with the opportunity to quickly become familiar with the software and interface features. Students may sign on as a “guest” so they do not need their SSID, however whatever way they sign in the questions are ungraded. The training tests are organized by grade bands (e.g., 3–5).
