THURSDAY MESSAGE AUGUST 25, 2022
Hortencia Corral

WELCOME BACK TIGERS!

We hope that everyone is refreshed and ready for the new school year. If you are a new family and have any questions whatsoever, please seek out Mrs. Fresch, the principal, or Jennifer Hinrichs, the PTA president. The two fabulous office staff (Virginia and Kenya) are also very “in the know” about everything at Adams and happy to help!  The Office Phone number is: 805-563-2515

JOIN US AT FRIDAY FLAG EACH WEEK

Parents are welcome to join us at Friday Flag every week. Please wait until 8:28 am to come onto the blacktop. You can then stand around the perimeter of our student population who will sit in a horseshoe shape on the blacktop. Each week we celebrate staff and students, celebrate birthdays, and focus on school priorities. It is very positive and a great way to feel connected to the school community. Parents must exit campus following the short assembly each week, unless it is followed by Fresch Coffee, which it is this week.

THIS FRIDAY FRESCH COFFEE

SAVE THE DATE! THIS Friday, August 26, 2022, the Principal’s Fresch coffee will be in person immediately following the Friday Flag assembly on the playground. Coffee will be provided.

SCHOOL ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY

This is a reminder that school attendance is mandatory. I thank you in advance for ensuring that your child is participating in school everyday and arrives on time and ready to learn.  A student is considered truant after 3 unexcused absences. If your child experiences COVID or comes into close contact with someone with COVID, please communicate with the Assistant Principal, Hortencia Corral, so we can set-up learning at home.

"ART ALL YEAR” CALENDARS

Be on the lookout for this year's Adams School Calendar in your child's Thursday Folder. This calendar highlights many of our talented young artists and is a great place for you to keep track of all things school-related throughout the year. Please note that if you have multiple children at Adams, your copy is being sent with the oldest sibling enrolled. Enjoy!

THURSDAY FOLDERS

Each week students will bring home a Thursday Tiger Folder with important papers from the office and your teacher, as well as graded schoolwork. Please be sure to empty the contents each week and return the folders on Fridays. Messages from the Principal will always come home on yellow paper. Please read all communication that comes home from school, and pay special attention to school-wide messages on yellow paper. If the folders do not arrive in time, we will send them home starting next Thursday, but please still look for the papers going home in your child’s backpack.

FAMILY ENGAGEMENT LIAISON INTRODUCTION

Hi, Tiger Families! I would like to take this opportunity to not only introduce myself but welcome new and returning families. My name is Kimberly and I am the Family Liaison at Adams elementary. This is my second year and my role is to help families in need by connecting them with resources our school district may offer or reaching out to local agencies. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

ROAR CARD WINNERS

Again, this year, staff will be passing out ROAR Cards: Students who are caught making Responsible,Organized, Academic, and/or Respectful choices will be given a bright orange ROAR card. Have your child write their name and teacher’s name on the card and drop it in the box in the front office for a chance to win prizes at the weekly Friday Flag. Student winners will then be announced in this weekly bulletin the following week. Tell your child good luck!

TIGER LOVE KICK-OFF

Calling all families — we need your donation to reach our $50,000 Tiger Love goal. The Tiger Love Campaign is ourbiggest fundraiser of the year and we need your help! 🧡Please look for more information in your child's Thursday folder TODAY!Watch Parent Square for additional prize and raffle information -- restaurant and merchandise gift cards, special fun family experiences. If you participated over the summer, you can bring one of the following to your child's teacher (or send to Mrs. Chalmers via email to sachalmers@sbunified.org ):A printed/emailed copy of your "Challenge Completed" certificate found online if you tracked your reading there, your collected beads, your reading journal (or a picture of it) Please bring to school or email Mrs. Chalmers, so that we can plan to celebrate those who participated! Please send this in by Friday, September 2nd.

SIXTH GRADE IS GOING TO CAMP!

We are excited to share that the School District is prioritizing providing funding for our schools to send our sixth graders to science camp this year. Adams will be sending our sixth graders to Camp Whittier April 4th through April 7th. More information will be shared in the upcoming months. The PTA will work with parents in future months to start saving funds for future years for 5th and sixth grades to make sure these memorable experiences can be offered in years to come.

ADAMS STAFF PARKING

Parents, we kindly ask that you do not park in the upper or lower staff parking lots, except for the few visitor spots we have set aside. We have over 80 staff and it is important they have a place to park when they arrive in the morning. I know this week has been challenging with Earl Warren closed but once it opens back up for us next Tuesday, I hope everyone can settle into a solid morning routine.\

PARKING LOT VOLUNTEERS

Thank you so much to the parents who have been volunteering in the parking lot in the mornings. We need your help to keep our students safe and to ensure a speedy drop-off. Please contact Mrs. Fresch or Bibi Pesso if you have one morning you are able to volunteer each week! kfresch@sbunified.org bibigolm@hotmail.com

BREAKFAST IS SERVED ON CAMPUS!

Breakfast is served now from 8 to 8:30 am inside the cafeteria. Please let your student know they can eat breakfast before school every day for free. If you would like we encourage you to also send your child with a healthy snack for morning recess, as it is a long morning from 8:30 am until their scheduled lunch break.

CALM CORNER

Lindsay Lookingbill is back this year to support our students. Please see attachments for an introduction to CALM's Mental Health Consultant services offered this year and a letter to families. I look forward to getting to you all, and working together this year.
