NEW INFORMATION THIS WEEK

TOMORROW PAJAMA DAY, DECEMBER 13

Students may wear pajamas to school on Friday, December 13th for this month’s school pride day.  They must be appropriate for school. They can not have spaghetti straps, and must cover up most of your body.  If you have a nightgown that is like a dress, then you must wear shorts or pants underneath.  Students may wear robes and slippers.  But don’t forget to bring tennis shoes for PE and recess. Holiday headwear is also allowable, including beanies, Santa hats, antlers and such.

MINIMUM DAY DECEMBER 13

Plan ahead: Friday, December 13th will be a 12:10 pm dismissal for our entire school, and all elementary schools in the District.

FRIDAY FOOD SERVICE SCHEDULE

On Friday, December 13, on the minimum day, the food service schedule will be as follows:

We will offer breakfast during the 30-minute brunch break and a sack lunch after school. (NO service before school) Cafer servers will be outside the cafe serving sack lunches after school at 12:10 pm. Sack lunches are to be taken home or to after-school programs to be eaten. The students will need to grab and go very quickly as all 460 1-6 grade students leave at the same time.

Cafe servers will also serve the sack lunch to the kindergarteners down in front of their pickup area at 11:50 am because they leave earlier. There is no way the littles can come all the way up to the cafe and get off campus before everyone else lets out. A snack will then be served at 2:45 for students in after-school care.

THEATER PRODUCTION

Ms. Abby and I are so proud of all the students who tried out for this year's theater production SPACE PIRATES! We are looking forward to our first Theater Club meeting on Friday, January 10 from 3:08 - 4:30. If you have not yet submitted your $30 fee please bring to our first rehearsal - thank you!

MEDIA BALANCE & WELLBEING

We live in an era where it’s never been easier to keep up with the news or learn about a certain topic thanks to our devices. However, the heavy use of innovative technology can come at a cost that affects our wellbeing. More than ever we are encouraging all families to ensure that they are aware of the harms of social media and over reliance on phones and computers or iPads as a way to build connections. This winter break, challenge your children to make healthy connections, go out and volunteer, enjoy nature and detox from devices.

CALM CORNER

Helping Children Manage Big Emotions for Better Mental Health

Children experience a wide range of emotions, but managing strong feelings like anger, frustration, and sadness can be challenging. Teaching kids how to recognize and express emotions in healthy ways supports their mental health and builds emotional resilience. According to the Child Mind Institute, helping children name their feelings is a key first step. Simple strategies like taking deep breaths, counting to ten, or using calming tools such as stress balls can help children manage intense emotions effectively.

Parents and teachers play crucial roles by modeling emotional regulation and creating safe spaces for children to share their feelings. The American Psychological Association suggests using “emotion coaching” by acknowledging a child’s emotions while guiding them toward appropriate coping strategies. Consistent routines, positive reinforcement, and open communication also help children feel secure and better equipped to handle life’s challenges. By supporting emotional development early on, we can set children on a path toward long-term mental well-being.
