NEW INFORMATION THIS WEEK

REMINDER:  PARENTS ARE WELCOME TO JOIN US TOMORROW FOR FRIDAY FLAG, DECEMBER 17
Tomorrow, Friday, December 17, we will welcome parents on campus for our first in-person experience. We realize this has been a long time coming, and hope you will be able to stop by for our short 15-minute Flag Assembly. Because we will be outside, and only come together for 15 minutes, we will not verify vaccinations, but do ask that all guests remain masked on campus during the assembly. Students will come on campus as they always do, from 8 to 8:30 am. Then starting at 8:25, parents can make their way to the blacktop to observe our weekly Friday Flag gathering. Kinder parents can park at Earl Warren and then wait in the kinder playground area with their students at drop-off, and then come with their classes to the assembly area. All other grades we will ask that parents wait in the lunch table area by the cafe, or on the walking ramp down below rooms 1-4, until being brought onto the blacktop at 8:25 am by school staff. The assembly is a nice way to celebrate staff and students each week, and we are happy to be able to share that experience with you. Please park at Earl Warren after dropping off your 1-6th graders and then walk on over. Again, masks need to be worn while on campus as we are not checking vaccinations for this short but sweet assembly.

TOMORROW FRIDAY IS MINIMUM DAY FOR ALL STUDENTS
Friday, December 17th will be a 12 pm dismissal for our entire school.
Mañana Viernes es Dia Minimo Para Todo Los Estudiantes
El viernes 17 de Diciembre se despedirá a las 12 pm para toda la escuela.

WINTER BREAK
There will be no school from Monday, December 18th - Sunday, January 2nd as our schools will be closed for winter break.  Stay safe, wear your masks, spend time with your immediate family, and limit exposure to others not in your circle of loved ones. Most of all, be thoughtful and thankful this holiday season.

SCHOOL PRIDE DAY: TOMORROW PAJAMA DAY !
Students may wear pajamas to school on Friday, December 17st for this month’s school pride day.  They must be appropriate for school.  They can not be see-through, or spaghetti straps, and must cover up most of your body.  If you have a nightgown that is like a dress, then you must wear shorts or pants underneath.  Students may wear robes and slippers.  But don’t forget to bring tennis shoes for PE and recess.  Holiday headwear is also allowable, beanies, santa hats, antlers and such.

ADAMS OFFICE IS CLOSED
The Adams School office will be closed the entire two weeks of winter break from Monday, December 20 to Friday, December 31. Please enjoy this break from school with your family and we will help you with registration or other school business when we return.

CALM CORNER: From Lindsay Lookingbill
Most of you may have heard of the term mindfulness, let's take a mindful minute and look at the definition, importance, how to practice, and an interactive example. Mindfulness is a tool that can be practiced in and out of the classroom, for any and all ages.
What is Mindfulness: “Mindfulness is awareness that arises through paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, non-judgmentally,” -Jon Kabat-Zinn.
Why is Mindfulness important: In a busy environment, we often become distracted and overwhelmed by a list of things to accomplish and mindlessly run on autopilot. Being distracted in classrooms may show up as; always waiting for recess or lunch to begin, becoming easily bored, having anxiety, etc. If you are noticing these characteristics in students, mindfulness can be utilized as a tool to stay in the present (also known as grounding).
When to use Mindfulness: You can use mindfulness any time! Sometimes a morning stretch, affirmation, guided meditation, or a few deep breaths can go a long way.
Getting started: There are many tips and techniques to practice mindfulness. Some activities can be found online, or you can come see me for tools to use within the classroom, or at home. One example of a mindfulness activity can be found below:
 The seeing game
Ask your child/student to silently look around the room for one minute. Their goal is to find things in the room that they’ve never noticed. It could be big things such as a painting, or little details such as cracks in the ceiling. After the minute is up, ask the students to share what the most interesting new things they noticed.

SING! 2022 REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN
After two years of pandemic-related online instruction, we are excited to announce that the Sing! after-school program for 1st through 6th grade students will be re-launched in person on January 10 at Adams! We look forward to welcoming all of the young musicians back to singing! Look for more information soon on how to sign up!

REMINDERS FROM PREVIOUS THURSDAY MESSAGES:

HOLIDAY COLLECTION
Student Council is encouraging every student to make a handwritten card to a healthcare worker to be distributed to staff at Cottage Hospital during winter break. They decided to thank our community healthcare providers during the holiday season for their work with patients and at the hospital, taking time away from their own family and friends. Cards should be addressed to healthcare workers and signed from Adams Tigers, Adams Students or by first names only. They should be nondenominational and just thank them the work that these special individuals do. Students will have an opportunity to make a card at school, but we will welcome additional handmade cards too!  We need all cards by noon tomorrow.

BIKE SAFETY FIRST  -  NEED A HELMET?
Mrs. Churchman has 1 toddler, 5 small, 3 medium, and 4 large helmets available. Helmets are like shoes, they get too small and they wear out. Make sure your child is safe. Does your cell phone have a cover to protect it?  Your head and your child's head is more important than your cell phone!
