EARL WARREN PARKING LOT CLOSURE
My apologies for the last-minute notice regarding the use of the Earl Warren Showgrounds parking lot. The showgrounds are being used for emergency responders due to the Alisal fire. I realize this causes an inconvenience and stress at the last minute for you, so I appreciate your understanding. We do utilize their parking lot as a community partner, and oftentimes throughout the year when they have events or emergency needs, it becomes off-limits for us. At this point, I anticipate not having access to the parking until at least next Wednesday.  In this type of situation, you would be asked to park in the neighborhood across the street and walk your child on campus. Please also know that we will excuse tardies for students who are late in these unavoidable circumstances.

HEALTHIER SNACKS
We would like to encourage families to send healthy food items to school for snack or lunch. There has been a recent increase in Cheetos, Hot Cheetos, and Takis, as well as Gatorade and powdered drink beverages. At Adams we really try to promote a sugar free campus, and encourage snacks that help fuel our brains and bodies. In addition, the dye and powder on these types of chips leave red fingerprints all around for campus clean-up. We serve incredibly delicious and healthy meals in the Santa Barbara Unified School District that are free for everyone. If however, you choose to send meals to school with your child for consumption, we ask that you are mindful of healthier food options. Thank you.

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS
At this time we are not passing out homemade food or store bought treats for birthdays unless prearranged by the teacher and individually wrapped. Sorry, but until we are no longer following COVID protocols we have to follow this safety rule.

REMINDERS FROM PREVIOUS THURSDAY MESSAGES:

FRESCH COFFEE AND TITLE I PARENT MEETING
SAVE THE DATE! On Friday, October 22, 2021, at the Principal’s Fresch coffee, I will share information about "What it means to be a Title I School." As a Title I school we are eligible for federal funding and I will take this opportunity to share with the school community how our funds are spent to support student achievement specifically at Adams. We will also have time for questions about topics you are interested in.

THE GREAT CALIFORNIA SHAKEOUT DRILL
The Great California Shakeout will take place on Thursday, 10/21/20 at 10:21 AM. All staff and students who are on campus on this day will participate in a modified version of the extended practice we have conducted in the past. We all still need to be prepared for emergencies. We will duck and cover and discuss how to safely evacuate in a socially distanced manner. This year staff will practice how to utilize technology to verify student attendance in the event of a disaster.
