NEW INFORMATION THIS WEEK

CROSSING GUARD COVERAGE

Thank you so very much to the following parents who helped cover the crossing guard duty in Albert’s absence. Theresa Huerta, Gabi Cardi, Alexis Butler, and Claudio Garcia we appreciate you!

HALLOWEEN
This year Adams will not be having students dress in Halloween costumes at school. Halloween falls on a Sunday and it is not a holiday that we teach the history of in the school setting. As we are trying to be very mindful of equity and inclusion we feel it is best to not “celebrate” Halloween, as it is not widely celebrated by all families at Adams. Rather than have students dress in costumes  we are going to provide every student with a new white mask that they are encouraged to decorate. Students will be provided sample ideas by the student council and our Art Teacher, Mrs. Leo. They will decorate their masks at school and can wear them over another mask of their own. On Friday October 29th students can then wear their personalized masks and black and orange colors, or holiday t-shirts, ( or Even Tiger Wear) if they choose. Show your school spirit and join in the fun!

BOO GRAMS
The Student Council will be selling Boo Grams the week of October 25th - 29th  before school for .50 cents and $1.00. Boo Grams will be delivered to their friends on Friday, October 29th . To purchase a Boo gram students will need to know their friend’s name, Teacher name, or room number.

ADAMS HOME SCHOOL COMPACT
The Adams School community is committed to excellence in the academic and social development of each child. In order to accomplish this goal, we agree to provide a setting in which encourages parents, teachers, and students to work together to support each student. Attached is our annual Home School Compact that is revisited each year by the School Site Council and then presented to the school community. As a Title I school this is a requirement to ensure that we invite parents to actively participate in their child’s education.

DIA DE LOS MUERTOS
How does your family celebrate Dia De Los Muertos? Day of the Dead (Día de Muertos) is a celebration of life and death that is celebrated throughout Latin America. The multi-day holiday, from October 31 to November 2 involves family and friends gathering to remember friends and family members who have died. Traditions connected with the holiday include building altars to honor the deceased, gatherings that include face painting, costumes, singing and dancing and making offerings to lost loved ones, usually their favorite foods and drinks. Sadly, given the current pandemic conditions, we are unable to host our annual Dia De Los Muertos Fall Festival event on campus that includes the building of a beautiful altar. However, please send Ms. Fresch (kfresch@sbunified.org) pictures of how your family honors and celebrates Dia de los Muertos. The pictures will be shared on Adams' Instagram page and can include photos of your altar, your family gatherings, artwork you may create in honor of loved ones or anything that represents Dia de los Muertos to your family. Send photos to kfresch@sbunified.org

EARL WARREN UPDATE
Please be aware that the Earl Warren Showgrounds parking lot will continue to be used for a fall-sponsored event called the Halloween Haunt through next Monday, October 25. My apologies, but our families will not have access to the EW parking lot until next Tuesday, October 26. I also would like to ask that you please please understand this is a community partnership that requires gratitude and respect at all times. I know it is stressful and inconvenient for you to make changes to your morning routine, but if we don’t conduct ourselves in a calm and respectful manner we jeopardize losing access to the parking lot altogether. As I’ve shared before, many times throughout the school year they will have events or reasons that they need to close the parking lot off to us. We are very fortunate to have the space as an overflow for our very large student population, when it is accessible, and need to understand that we must always drive safely and respond positively to both the Adams Staff or the Earl Warren staff who are supervising or giving directions. Thank you very much!

A-OK goes to College Event
