CALM CORNER
The Connection Between Physical Activity and Mental Health
Moving our bodies isn’t just good for physical health—it’s also great for the brain! Regular physical activity helps children reduce stress, improve mood, and boost focus. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), exercise releases feel-good chemicals in the brain called endorphins, which help children feel happier and more relaxed. Whether it’s running, jumping, dancing, or playing a sport, movement helps kids manage big emotions and build confidence.
Parents and teachers can encourage physical activity by making movement a fun part of the day. Simple activities like recess games, nature walks, or stretching breaks can help children release energy and improve their ability to concentrate in school. The American Psychological Association notes that active kids tend to sleep better, feel more positive, and have an easier time coping with challenges. By making movement a priority, we support children’s mental well-being and help them develop healthy habits that last a lifetime.
