END OF YEAR REMINDERS
We still have two and a half weeks of school left so please make sure your student is here every day, on time, and ready to learn. That includes iPads charged, a good night's sleep, focused and responsible. All grades have end of year assessments taking place over the course of the rest of the year, many are whole groups and some one-on-one, and any absence disrupts that. These test scores help us to build classes for next year and complete report cards. We also have many special end of year activities that we do not want to have students miss for poor behavior so remind them to put their best foot forward each day as they get out of the car or on to the bus! Please do not schedule vacations or plan to leave the school year early. We want you all here till the very end!
THEATER PRODUCTION: “THE CLAW”
Please join us on Tuesday, May 17 at 6:30 pm in the Adams Cafe for our production of "The Claw." Come find out what happens when an out of order "claw" game suddenly turns back on! The play features Dot, a terrified stuffed cow and her best friend Aiden, a stuffed dragon. The play also features the Flair Bears, Mighty Mutant Power Turtles, Beanie Elders, Mystical 8-balls, and, of course,....The Claw! Fun for the whole family! Admission is free thanks to a grant from the Santa Barbara Bowl Foundation.
THERMOMETERS
We are sending home thermometers for all students who have had a close contact in the classroom. Your thermometer is yours to keep and do with as you please. Any other family who would like a free digital thermometer, please stop by the office. We have plenty!
CALM CORNER: From Lindsay Lookingbill
Mandalas for Meditation Mandalas are traditionally used in many eastern spiritual traditions as a tool to aid meditation. In western culture, mental health counselors often use mandalas as a form of stress relief, a tool for art therapy, and as a meditative exercise.
The mandala can be used alone or as part of a stress management plan. Both children and adults love filling in mandalas, probably because of their relaxing nature and the satisfaction of seeing color fill the frame. Mandalas often bring us a reminder to be in the present moment, a wonderful chance to practice mindfulness.

INVITATION TO 6TH GRADE PROMOTION
A formal invitation is going home in the Thursday Folder TODAY. Invitation Here Please plan to join us on June 1st at 10:15 am for a 10:30 start time, on campus for an in person promotion ceremony for our sixth graders. (The Art Calendar was printed in July of 2021, so this is a change from that calendar. Sorry for the confusion.) Guests will be limited to 2 adults per 6th grade student. This will allow us to hold one ceremony all together outside. *The traditional Montessori Promotion Beach Ceremony will be held at 7 pm on May 31st and a separate invitation already went home with the Montessori families who are all invited to attend.
EARL WARREN PARTNER
As a partner to the Earl Warren Showgrounds we need to be mindful and respectful of their property and communication. It was brought to our attention that some students and families have been playing soccer in their parking lot and on the grass field in front of their offices. Perhaps this is happening between pick-up for students in different grades kinder, primary, and upper grades to pass the time. However, their staff have asked that their space not be used for such play. For safety reasons, and to allow them to function as a business, please be mindful and refrain from playing in their space. If any staff at the Showgrounds asks for any specific behavior on your part, please respond respectfully as a member of our school community. We do not want to jeopardize our ability to use their parking lot as a partner in the community for years to come.
ANNUAL BOOK SWAP (attach flier)
It's time for the annual Book Swap! Trade in your books for some new summer reading! Bring in your gently used books and swap with your friends at Adams! Everyone has books at home they have read, and re-read, and now you can trade them in for new ones! All students are encouraged to bring 1 to 5 books from home to school Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, May 16-18th. Students will take their books to the Adams library before school between 8:00 and 8:20 and receive one ticket for each book they bring in to swap. On Thursday or Friday, students will return to the library with their class and use the tickets to pick out gently used books to take home with them. If you bring two books you take two home, if you bring four, you take four home… Books from all elementary reading levels are accepted as long as they are in good condition! Email Ms. Price with questions mprice@sbunified.org
HUGGY WUGGY
It has been brought to our attention that a character named 'Huggy Wuggy” is being viewed by our children online. The character can be easily viewed on YouTube channels, and is a teddy bear with razor-sharp teeth, that sings worrying songs about hugging and killing. Whether it is from youtube, or some other format they are seeing it, when the idea is brought to school in discussion or emulated, or in a plush toy, it becomes an interruption to the learning environment and scary for other students who have no idea what it is until a peer tells them. Children who browse adult YouTube with no supervision are likely to encounter the creature, and probably watch something unsettling. Please monitor your child’s access to social media, and talk to them about this character only if they are already familiar, reminding them it is not an appropriate topic for school.
SCHOOL BOARD PRESENTATION
Adams School Board Presentation Video Adams was highlighted at the recent School Board Meeting. If you would like to watch the video it is about 8 minutes in length. I was proud to be able to celebrate our school with the community!
