Thank you for making Responsible, Organized, Academic and Respectful choices!

Students on campus will watch the Friday Flag on Zoom projected on their classroom TV. If you are a Distance Learning student please make sure your child joins us each FRIDAY morning at 8:45 for our Zoom Webinar. Have your student join using the ID 93982002652 or you can use your device by clicking on this link. Students will then jump off this Zoom and onto their teacher’s regular Zoom after for instruction if they are participating in Distance Learning. Parents at home can Zoom in if they are interested in seeing what is going on at school!

Although some schools will be having in-person promotion ceremonies, due to our large class size, staff size, construction, and the amount of planning and recording that has already taken place before finding out about the lifting of various restrictions for outdoor events, Adams will not be having ours in person. We will encourage students to still get dressed up and celebrate this momentous occasion with their families during the school day on June 1st. Each class will be given a specific one hour window of time to come on campus to collect their awards and promotion certificate, and take a photo in their dressy attire with their teacher and/or family in a social distancing safe format. In the afternoon on June 1st, sixth grade students will enjoy a pizza party on the kindergarten field. A prerecorded video link will be sent to all sixth grade parents and students for their viewing on June 1st at 7 PM, AFTER logging into a Zoom Session where brief announcements will be made. Understanding this is an important time in these scholars' educational career, our desire was to offer a somewhat traditional ceremony with a modern and quirky technology-based savviness. We wish these Tigers all the best and due to confidentiality reasons we will not share the link with the entire school, and we will ask that families save the viewing for themselves and not share the link outside our sixth grade circle. More information will be shared in the weeks to come. See Schedule below:

On Wednesday, May 19th, Tiger Theatre will present a private screening of "The Show Must Go Online" for cast and crew members only. The screening will be presented in Mr. Larsen's room immediately following dismissal. A link will be made available after the screening for family, friends and Adams teachers and students to view the virtual play on YouTube. Thank you to the students and Mr. Larsen for being committed to this wonderful experience even in our usual school circumstances.

Mrs. Fresch asked our CALM Counselor to look into the popular video game AmongUs. We encourage parents to always be very aware of the games their child is playing, and whenever possible, supervise them in action. This game is popular with some of our little Tigers and we are observing incidents of aggression and language they may be witnessing when playing the game. AmongUs is rated by players as very fun and pretty clean.  It is similar to Epic Games’ Fortnite.  People who did not like Fortnite will probably not like AmongUs.  Fortnite has a spin off game called Spy Within and AmongUs is inspired by Spy Within. It is considered a 13-and-older game, but younger players are numerous. Especially children who have older siblings. As with all video game situations, parents are the Benevolent Dictators who decide how game time will be used.  I advise parents to sit with their children and simply watch them play for a bit, without comment. Language used in game play may be an issue worth addressing. For example: Substitute the word “eliminated” for “killed” as in “I just eliminated that player!”

Substitute the word “extracted” or “ejected”for “died”, as in “my player just got extracted” The other game feature that might cause concern is the random player assignment: young kids might be playing in an online session with older players. Bad language is a possibility. One good feature of AmongUs is that players can set a time and make their own private “room”.  This way it is just a fun time for friends who know each other to play together online.  You need about 6 players for a 20 minute game. We hope you find this information helpful.

The annual book swap is back! Students are encouraged to bring gently used books to school to swap for new books to read this summer.  We will begin to collect books on May 17th!
