NEW INFORMATION THIS WEEK
CAASPP TESTING THIS WEEK: Adams Tigers Think Sharp!
Adams Tigers Think Sharp! is our theme as we gear up for the CAASPP tests. Testing will take place the two weeks of May 8 to 19 for students in third through sixth grade in the areas of ELA and Math, and on May 24 and 25 for fifth graders in science. Please ensure that students are on time to school every day, try not to have any absences, have a good night's sleep, and eat a protein meal every morning. This will help support your children in doing their best on these important state tests. Students must also have their iPad, fully charged, with their keyboard and headphones everyday for their two or three weeks of testing. * Below are a few websites that you can refer to in preparing your children for the CAASPP. CALM CORNER
Anger Management Skill Cards:
Anger management for children usually begins with basic psychoeducation. Kids who haven't had a lot of experience talking about emotions can have a hard time labeling their feelings, recognizing triggers, and connecting the consequences they've experienced back to their anger. Teach children to control their anger using these bright and fun anger management skill cards. Each of the twelve cards has a picture and an idea for a healthy anger management technique that's appropriate for kids.
Important for adults to remember when helping a child to deal with anger:
-
Be empathetic and non-judgmental.
-
Respect personal space.
-
Keep your tone and body language neutral.
-
Avoid overreacting.
-
Focus on the thoughts behind the feelings.
-
Ignore challenging questions.
-
Give the child time to regain their calm: Say, “I notice you’re really upset. Let’s work together on breathing slowly for one minute in order to manage your impulses.”
