Thank you for making Responsible, Organized, Academic, and Respectful choices! Each week we will celebrate students and staff at Friday Flag and announce them here to parents.

NEW INFORMATION THIS WEEK

NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 5

Monday, September 5th, there will be no school for students in observance of the Labor Day Holiday!

EARL WARREN SAFETY

We are pleased to be able to offer parking at Earl Warren for Kinder and TK families to help with drop-off in the mornings. Any other grade and staff are also welcome to park there. We ask that you drive very safely, park, and walk your students up the sidewalk to campus. It is a very busy street, and an adult should accompany students. Please follow any rules of Adams adult staff or parents on duty or any who may represent Earl Warren, as we have this partnership that is appreciated and needs to be maintained.

STUDENT COUNCIL ANNUAL CLASS GIFT

The student council representatives raised over $1,300 on sales throughout the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 school years. They voted as a group to spend the money on a School Flag, which is proudly hung on our flag pole at the school entrance. I am very proud as their advisor, alongside Mrs. Van Lant, of their teamwork, commitment to Adams, and choice for their school donation. Check it out!

STUDENT COUNCIL TRYOUTS ARE COMING UP SOON

If your student is in the 4th through 6th grade and is interested in joining Student Council, this is their opportunity.  We will have an informational meeting in the cafe on Wednesday, September 14, during their lunchtime. Please encourage them to join us to learn more about what the responsibilities for the year entail.

ELAC MEETING SEPTEMBER 12

Being a multilingual person is a powerful gift. Did you know that Adams has an English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC)? If you are a parent of an emergent multilingual Tiger, please join us for this year’s first ELAC meeting on Monday, September 12, 2022, from 6:00-7:00 pm. This first meeting will be the only hybrid meeting of the year for ELAC, and we will vote for officers. You are invited to attend the meeting in person or on Zoom. Childcare will be provided. We are looking into providing dinner from 5:15-5:45. More information to come.

ELAC is responsible for advising the principal and staff in developing a site plan for English learners and assisting in the development of the school-wide needs assessment. One lucky member has the opportunity to serve on the District English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC). We hold 4-5 meetings per year. Interpretation will be offered from Spanish to English, and the meeting will be held in Spanish. Don't hesitate to contact any of our past ELAC officers, including the president- Amba Coyt, or Hortencia Corral, at hcorral@sbunified.org if you have any questions.  See this flyer (English) and (Spanish) for all of this year’s dates.

LUNCH WITH YOUR STUDENT

Although we discourage parents from eating with their students regularly, we understand it might be a special occasion or a need to support your child with a difficult time. If you plan to have lunch on campus with your child, we ask that you check in the front office at their actual lunchtime, wait for them to come up to the cafe when released from recess on the playground, and eat together by the cafe at the tables outside. We ask that you do not bring food to share with other students or food that does not match our nutritional requirements. We also ask that you do not eat on the playground with the other children. Thank you. See Mrs. Fresch for more details if needed.

BREAKFAST AND LUNCH ARE SERVED DAILY FOR FREE

All students are provided complimentary breakfast and lunch at Adams daily. Breakfast is served in the cafe from 8:00 to 8:20 am. Lunch is served after recess time on the playground. Please encourage your child to check out the menu and try the fantastic food provided by our kitchen staff under the direction of Estela. If your child has dietary restrictions such as no dairy, egg, nuts, or gluten, please see Mrs. Estela in the cafe to communicate your restrictions, and she will do her best to accommodate your child’s needs.

REMINDERS FROM PREVIOUS THURSDAY MESSAGES:

SCHOOL ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY

This is a reminder that school attendance is mandatory. I thank you in advance for ensuring that your child is participating in school every day and arrives on time and ready to learn.  A student is considered truant after three unexcused absences. Pre-plan vacations when school is not in session using the district calendar at https://tinyurl.com/SBUSD2022-23. If your child experiences COVID or comes into close contact with someone with COVID, please communicate with the Assistant Principal, Hortencia Corral, so we can set-up learning at home.

THURSDAY FOLDERS

Each week students will bring home a Thursday Tiger Folder with important papers from the office and your teacher, as well as graded schoolwork. Please be sure to empty the contents each week and return the folders on Fridays. Messages from the Principal will always come home on yellow paper. Please read all communication that comes home from school, and pay special attention to school-wide messages on yellow paper. If the folders do not arrive in time, we will send them home starting next Thursday, but please still look for the papers going home in your child’s backpack.
