SCHOOL PRIDE DAY: NEXT FRIDAY

Students may dress like a teacher next Friday, September 29th, for our school’s first school pride day of the year. The last Friday of the month is typically a school pride day where the student council encourages all of the school to dress up. Dress in professional clothes and try to find accessories or school items that make you look like a teacher and tell your student to join in fun!

DENTAL SCREENING NEXT WEEK

Reminder next week Tuesday September 24,2024, the Santa Barbara Neighborhood Clinic will be performing a free dental screening on campus. Your student was sent home with a consent form a few weeks ago with their teacher. Please make sure if  you haven't returned the form please do so regardless of whether you’d like your child to participate or not. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact our school family liaison Kenya Catalan (805)563-2515 ex. 1091 or Martin Villegas, the Dental Health Outreach Coordinator for the Santa Barbara Neighborhood Clinics at (805) 319-5380.

TIGER LOVE CAMPAIGN

Thank you to everyone who has responded to our Tiger Love fundraiser!  Each year the Adams PTA asks families to generously donate at the beginning of the school year to help fund extra curricular programs, teacher and classroom resources, and events that make Adams special. While the district funds the school, our PTA spends about $250 per student to provide extra support that benefits all students at Adams.

You can donate online at https://secure.qgiv.com/for/aes or look for a donation envelope in your student’s Thursday folder. So far we’ve raised $7,700 which is 19% of our $40,000 goal and we only have a week to go.  Please share with family and friends who may want to support our school.

As important as our dollar goal is having everyone participate based on their own financial ability.  There are lots of incentives for participation:

  • Every student who submits a donation will be entered into drawings for prizes throughout the two week fundraiser.

  • Every class with 100% participation will earn a class pizza or popsicle party.

  • If we meet our $40,000 school-wide goal, we’ll have a Kona Shave Ice party for the whole school!

DANCE OFFERED DURING LUNCH RECESS

Adams will offer dance on Mondays for grades 1 and 2 from 11:45 am to 12:05 pm and grades 3 and 4 from 12:05 to 12:25  pm in the cafe. The dance classes will cover the basics of ballet, jazz, and contemporary dance, including choreography that the students can master. Encourage your student to try it out!

SBUNIFIED FIRST ANNUAL BEACH CLEANUP!

Join us on Saturday September 21st from 9 -12 pm at Shoreline Park. All staff, students and families are welcome. This event will count as volunteer hours for students. LINK to Flyer.

EMERGENCY SUPPLY DONATIONS REQUEST

As part of our commitment to keeping our students safe and prepared for emergencies, we kindly ask for your help. We are requesting donations of the following items to be stored in the classroom in case of an emergency: Case(s) of bottled water and dry snacks (such as granola bars, nuts, or dried fruit) These items will be used to ensure that all students have access to essential supplies during an emergency situation. Your contributions will greatly assist in making our drill successful and ensuring we are well-prepared. Please reach out to your classroom teacher to identify specific needs so that multiple parents do not purchase the same items.

HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH

Did you know that only 5% of young readers are authored by or about LatinX people. As we honor and celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, click here to read a great article that includes a list of books for you and your family to explore during Hispanic Heritage Month, Sept. 15 - Oct. 15. Which book or books will you read? In addition, the Vibrant Food Celebrated in National Hispanic Heritage Month and Where to Eat It is highlighted here in this link. Delicious!

CALM CORNER
What is mindfulness?
Over the course of the school year, we will be talking about mindfulness frequently in this column.
Mindfulness is the ability to be present and aware of what is going on, while also not being overwhelmed or overly reactive. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xoLQ3qkh0w0&t=23s
