Congratulations to the following elected members of the Student Council for the 21-22 school year! President, Zoe Medina; Vice President, Gabriel Phillips; Secretary, Gianna Cardi; Treasurer, Susana Figueroa; Community Service Representative Emma Sizer; and Classroom Representatives: Paloma Aguilar, Leah Arreloa, Gianna Butler, Maylin Ramirez, Lyla Nguyen, Anisia Kourakis, Rodrigo Silva, Nathaniel Montalvo, Ian Garcia, Ian Price, and Sam Peralta.
We had 32 candidates and they all put forth great effort and respect for the process. We look forward to these students leading us in a fun and positive way this year!

TECHNOLOGY REMINDERS

CELL PHONES

Students are not to use their personal cell phone during the school day to communicate with parents. All phone calls need to be made through the front office or a classroom teacher so we are aware of the student needs. School policy states that if students have them on campus they need to be  put away and off at all times during the school day

TikTok
As many local schools, including Adams, experience increased vandalism and theft occurrences in our school restrooms due to a recent challenge presented on TikTok, I encourage parents to revisit their child’s access to TikTok and other social media platforms as a minor under the age of 13. Our efforts as a school and parent community to support the development of respectful and conscientious citizens is essential to their success in school and public settings when not in our presence. In addition, the rising alarming data surrounding the negative impact of social media on girl’s self esteem and self image is another reason to limit their access to such programs.

GIZMO WATCH (APPLE WATCH FOR KIDS)
A number of primary students are wearing these new fancy watches to school and using them to text parents during the school day. They are also interrupting instructional time with music or ringtone sounds. Like cell phones, we will ask students to keep these in their backpacks as they should not be used while at school. If you feel this very valuable accessory is not safe in your child’s backpack, please ask them to leave it at home. Thank you for your support.

COMING SOON AXXESS FUNDRAISER
Our school will kick-off Axxess book sales on Friday, October 15th! Start asking your family if they want one this year!

REMINDERS FROM PREVIOUS THURSDAY MESSAGES:

WALK TO SCHOOL DAY OCTOBER 6

Did you know that walking and bicycling to school enables children to incorporate the regular physical activity they need each day while also forming healthy habits that can last a lifetime?  PLUS, it’s super fun! Enjoy the sounds of the neighborhood, see friends and neighbors and feel connected with your community!  Please join us on October 6 for Walk or Bike or Scooter to School Day! Prizes, stickers and smoothies will be provided for all walkers and bikers, as well as those who ride the bus since they are participating in sustainable transportation!  We will also be having everyone sign a poster exclaiming that they “walked or biked to school” and we will hang this for all to see!
If you need a bike helmet before the date, bring $10 cash to Mrs. Churchman and she will fit one to you!
**This year there will be no formal leaders from neighborhoods, but feel free to find a neighbor and ride or walk in together!
