ARRIVALS AND TARDIES

This is a friendly reminder that school begins at 8:30 am. You may drop off your students, beginning at 8:00 am. Please plan to drop off or walk in your student before 8:25 am and account for parking lot traffic. Students arriving after 8:30 am must get a tardy slip to enter class.

OCEAN GUARDIAN/STUDENT COUNCIL

Good news to share! Student Council and Ocean Guardian are highlighted in the community: story to our website

WE HAVE MOVED OUR BIKE RACKS DUE TO CONSTRUCTION

We encourage students to walk or ride their bikes to school in grades 4, 5, and 6. To lessen the congestion in the parking lot, consider allowing your child to make this healthy choice. The bike racks are directly below room 1 now. Students need to wear a helmet and it is a good idea to lock your bike, but not required. Mr. Marme will sell bike helmets later this year to keep your ears open for that message.

STUDENT STORE

The School Store is opening again for the 2022-23 school year. As always, it is taking place in the courtyard of Rm. 6 (Mrs Nelson's Classroom). We’re selling pencils, pens, erasers, notebooks, books, fidget toys/ focus manipulatives and more. We also have a selection of mini objects including backpacks and mugs. During holidays, there will often be seasonal objects that are only available at that time of year. You don’t have to bring your entire wallet. Pencils are only 25 cents apiece. There’s quite a lot that can be bought for a dollar or two. Almost everything is under five dollars unless it is something extremely special. It has been multiple years since the School Store has last been open due to Covid. Mrs. Nelson's Class is looking forward to welcoming customers again.

School Store will be open on Friday’s from:

8:00- 8:20 all grades (parents welcome)

11:45- 12:00 grades 1 and 2

12:05- 12:20 grades 3 and 4

12:25- 12:40 grades 5 and 6

FLIP THE SWITCH

Check out this short video clip of Adams in the news last week. We had a ribbon cutting ceremony for the Solar Panel project. These large solar panels were put in place last year and are finally now able to generate over 80% of our school’s energy. They also provide a nice amount of shade on our blacktop for lunch.  Adams in the news!

CALM CORNER

Identifying Emotions: Developing emotional intelligence requires experience and introspection, but a basic vocabulary comes first. Pinning down the word that perfectly describes a feeling can be difficult, even for adults. The Emotion Faces worksheet attached is printable to help children match a word (and a face) with their feelings. Each of the colorfully illustrated faces depicts an emotion, with a simple emotion word to describe it. Below are a few ways to implement the Emotion Faces worksheet at home or in the classroom.

  • As a check-in ritual, encourage children to select an emotion from the sheet to describe how they're currently feeling.

  • Periodically ask children to check in with the emotion faces during stories. Let them select the emotion that best represents how they were feeling.

  • As an icebreaker, ask members of a group to select an emotion (cut them out, put in a bowl), and share a story about that emotion.

  • Create a small poster for the wall or bulletin board in your home or classroom to make things a bit more colorful
