SPRING ENRICHMENT CLASSES
The PTA is excited to be able to offer a diverse schedule of after-school enrichment classes this Spring! After school enrichment classes provide students with a great opportunity to participate in a variety of activities without leaving the school campus! Look for the Spring Enrichment Classes Schedule and Sign-ups on ParentSquare. Classes begin the week of April 8. *Please speak to Mrs. Fresch if you are in need of a scholarship* (flyer attached)

TK-3rd GRADE SPRING SING
Families are invited to come and listen to our TK-3rd-grade students sing on Friday, April 12th at 9 am in our auditorium. Mr. Larsen puts together these music concerts twice a year to showcase the students’ learning in our music program.

EXCITING TO SHARE
The Adams National ESEA Award website is live! Building this website was part of the application process for receiving the award. The site specifically highlights the amazing school programs at Adams, contributing to our continued success. The second web address included shows all the schools nationwide, that have received the award in years past, so you can see other successes and comparisons across the nation. It is super exciting again to have received this prestigious recognition.

APRIL IS CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH
April is Child Abuse Prevention month. CALM is dedicated every day to preventing childhood trauma, healing children and families, and building resilient communities throughout Santa Barbara County. Research shows that the right kind of care can mitigate the impact of childhood trauma in children and help them recover and rebuild. There are 6 key ways parents can support a healthy stress response: sleep, nutrition, exercise, mental health, mindfulness, and healthy relationships. Together, all of these important things can decrease the stress response and can reduce the potential negative effects of trauma. (flyer attached)

CHRONIC ABSENTEEISM
I have received quite a few questions regarding student absences and letters that go home, even if parents call the office to verify and excuse the absences. I looked into the excused versus unexcused absences reported, and yes they both count towards chronic absenteeism; not only in the letters that go home to you as a parent letting you know your students has excessive absences but in the school's collected and reported data. This means your student can have 20 absences, 17 which are verified/excused as medical or Illness, and three extended weekends, verified but unexcused, and thus you have 20 days out of school. The bottom line is if they are not at school they are missing out, which is why they are lumped as chronic absenteeism. Independent study doesn't count towards chronic absenteeism, but it also does not have the same impact instructional as being present at school every day.

ADAMS CHALLENGE READING CLUB
Adams Elementary School is offering a Challenge Reading Club for all interested K-6 students. Parents can sign up your child(ren) to participate in Accelerated Reader (AR) and your child(ren) can take AR comprehension quizzes before and after school in the library or on their school iPads while in A-OK or RAP. AUCENCIAS CRONICAS
