READ - A- THON ANNUAL FUNDRAISER

We are entering week 2 of our Read-A-Thon fundraiser! Students kicked off the fundraiser last Friday by dressing up as their favorite book character. Please remind your students to read and collect pledges or flat donations for minutes read. All pledges make a difference and the kids are loving the reading challenge!
Don't forget to sign up for Pledgestar! This is an easy way to share the fundraiser with family, friends, co-workers and neighbors via email, Facebook or Instagram.  To register, visit https://pledgestar.com/adams93105/

SAFETY IN CARS / CAR SEATS
Attention parents: according to the law children under the age of 8 and / or under 4 feet 9 inches must be safely secured in a car seat. Staff are not comfortable putting students into cars at the end of the school day if car seats or booster seats are not present. Please be sure your car, or the adult transporting your child has the proper safety seats in place for our Tigers.

CONGRATULATIONS ADAMS EMPLOYEES OF THE YEAR!
TEACHER OF THE YEAR 2020: MRS. HEATHER SOMERTON

Mrs. Somerton teaches a Montessori blended class of first through third grades. She is always professional, prepared, positive, and proud. Modeling kindness and fostering a love of learning, she challenges her students to reach new heights through exploration, risk taking and independence, tapping into their curiosity and creativity. Students blossom under her tenure and love coming to school!

CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR 2020: ESTELA MAYA

Estela is our Head Chef according to the students at Adams. As the Food Service Site Coordinator she creates daily meal menus for our staff and student body that keep people coming back for more! She values our school's sugar free policy, and promotes a healthy lifestyle with a plentiful fruit and salad bar. Estela shops for, and prepares special foods, for students with allergies and special needs. She greets almost 600 students for breakfast, lunch and dinner by name. She supports school-wide activities, staff parties, professional development sessions, and celebratory events with special menus. She is always approachable and flexible when it comes to accommodating school schedules at Adams. We all love Estela!

PLEASE DON’T PARK IN THE CAFE SPOT OR THE LOWER LOT
Reminder: the parking lot, both upper and lower lot behind the kindergarten building, is for staff parking only. Parents dropping off their preschool-age students must be out of the lower lot before 8 am. The cafe spots reserved in the side lot near trash bins behind the cafe are also for staff only. Parents may not park there after school waiting to pick-up their students from school. Please respect these rules in place for both student safety and staff accessibility during work hours. We understand it is not convenient for parents to have to park across the street or at Earl Warren, but that is the only established parking for parents not driving through the lot for drop-off or pick-up.

PRESIDENTS WEEKEND
There will be no school this Friday or Monday in observance of President’s Weekend. Enjoy your long 4 day weekend! And Happy Valentines Day!

EARBUDS
Adams is asking each parent to make a donation of earbuds for their own students to use at school. We feel it is best for hygiene reasons. Students can bring their own earbuds in a baggie and we can store them in the classroom so students don’t have to take them back and forth from school to home. Regular iPhone and iPad cell phone compatible earbuds can be purchased at the 99-cent store and brought to school for use with school devices. We have also purchased an allotment that can be bought in the front office for $3. Thank you for this donation to support student use of devices in the classrooms.

ASTRO AND CIMI CAMP
Camp for all fifth and sixth graders is quickly approaching! The cost to cover CIMI CAMP expenses is $125 per student and ASTRO CAMP expenses are $100 per student. If your family feels they will not be able to contribute this donation, please contact Mrs. Fresch immediately to either set-up a payment plan option or to arrange to help with fundraising opportunities. We want all students to participate in this wonderful opportunity!
