Ocean Guardian Ambassadors
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED- OCEAN GUARDIAN AMBASSADORS - Parents, Teachers & Community members
Help promote watershed education and ocean stewardship at Adams!
For the past nine years, Adams Elementary has proudly been a certified Ocean Guardian School. During this time, our 4th through 6th-grade students have actively committed to protecting and conserving our local watersheds, the global ocean, and our national marine sanctuaries. Our student ambassadors have engaged in impactful activities such as beach cleanups, watershed restoration projects, speaking at city council meetings, and educational excursions like kayaking Santa Barbara Harbor and trips to Santa Cruz Island.
This is a cherished and vital program at Adams, and we need volunteers to ensure its continuation. Are you passionate about teaching our students how to protect the ocean for the future? Would you like to help foster ocean and watershed conservation within our school community by becoming an Ocean Guardian Mentor?
If you're interested in getting involved, please email communications@ptaadamssb.org today!
Adams is proud to be in our 10th year as an Ocean Guardian School.
The Ocean Guardian Ambassadors is an after-school program for the 2025-26 school year. We just completed our 10th year. Though funded by NOAA, we are currently looking for 1-2 parents to help Sam Hammond, parent volunteer extraordinaire, to run the programs. It is too much for one person alone. Without your help, the program goes away.
This opportunity is open to 30 students in 4th, 5th and 6th grades on a first come, first served basis. Activities include:
Ocean Guardian Ambassadors Kick-off
Kayaking in Santa Barbara Harbor
Educational components at Adams School
Sea Center Visit and Beach Cleanup
Half Moon Hike to study the Watershed
Studying our Bioswale
Study and design of Campaign-Potentially with Santa Barbara Channelkeeper and/or Community Environmental Council
Present to City Council-Public Comments Regarding Important Environmental issues.
Saturday or Sunday Day Trip with Island Packers Boat Trip to Santa Cruz Island in Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary and National Park
